Did you know that black cats are less likely to be adopted? Now that Halloween has passed, we want to make sure that the River City’s adoptable inky felines get the love they deserve all year round. Art, Spaghetti Squash, Chucky, and Clearly Canadian – we’re speechless — are all awaiting adoption at Richmond Animal League. (PubMed Central)
Try This
Don’t forget to set your clocks back — daylight saving time ended at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 2, ushering in brighter mornings and earlier sunsets. Need help adjusting to the change? Enjoying a sun-soaked morning at a local coffee shop should do the trick.
Mansion Monday
Now it’s November, is it too early to decorate for the holidays? According to Southern Living, you should wait until after Thanksgiving. You might think differently if you owned this rom-com-worthy log cabin, recently listed on Riverside Drive. Built in 1910, this woodland home is a vintage decorator’s dream.
Seasonal
The most famous Christmas tree in the US has been chosen. A 75-year-old Norway Spruce will light up New York City’s Rockefeller Center this upcoming holiday season, donated by a family from upstate NY. Soon enough, we’ll be making the drive to find the perfect tree of our own at Wood’s Tree Farm in Amelia, VA. (NBC)
Outdoors
Prolific mountaineer Jim Morrison recently became the first person to ski down the Hornbein Couloir — an exceptionally steep section of Mount Everest’s north face. National Geographic is releasing a documentary about Morrison’s death-defying feat, with no release date yet set. A local hike is enough of a challenge for us.
Travel
Ready to indulge your wanderlust? National Geographic has released its list of top travel destinations in 2026. Whether you’re after animal encounters, ancient cultures, foodie paradises, cultural events, or gorgeous landscapes, the Richmond International Airport should be the first stop on your journey.
Jobs

Neighbors helping neighbors

Take what you need and leave what you can. Neighbors helping neighbors. Cooperation for the common good.
Those are some of the phrases painted onto RVA Community Fridges’ colorful food havens, where donating or finding food can be as simple as walking up and opening the fridge door. The organization operates 10+ fridges across the city, all accessible 24/7.
We asked the team if there are any specific donation items they are seeking at the moment. With November in full swing, they said, “any pantry items that could be used for Thanksgiving meals.”
Find a fridge near you, and see how you can support by dropping off fresh product or non-perishables, volunteering time, donating money, or simply spreading the word.
The Buy
A food warming mat — perfect for holiday hosting so your dishes don’t get cold before serving. It features seven temperature settings and is made from premium silicone to provide uniform heating.

Our readers have climbed to the top once again, with a majority of 57.5% guessing correctly. Tree canopies cover40% of the city, which leaves plenty of room for progress.
Good thing there are 30+ free events this week growing that effort.
Crossing paths with a cat named “Clearly Canadian” was not on my radar today, but I’m thanking the wind for taking me there. Here are some more endearing spotlights from Richmond SPCA’s adoptable cats and dogs:
