News Notes

Mansion Monday

If we see a house for sale on Monument Avenue, we’re clicking. Built in 1909, this 7-bed, 6-bath Georgian manor greets you with a checkered porch and a stark-white entryway. Take a look, and see how this home slips in and out of modernity and antiquity (with patterned wallpaper to boot).

Weather

The Climate Prediction Center’s latest seasonal outlook is in: Richmond can expect a warmer and drier winter than usual. Now through January, temperatures are predicted to trend above average, while rainfall is expected to stay below normal. Translation: Patio season might stick around a bit longer this year.

Try This

Punk Shakespeare. Harry’s at Hofheimer in Scott’s Addition will host Elsewhere Shakespeare’s bold, brazen, and brutal rendition of “Coriolanus” tomorrow at 7 p.m. The most “punk” thing about it: it’s free to attend.

Today Is

National Homemade Bread Day. If you’re inspired to haul some flour home, we love that. If not, that’s perfectly okay too. You can still celebrate with Richmond’s made-with-love local bakeries. Keep in mind: Sub Rosa’s shop is closed, so watch for pop-up events.

State

House Beautiful just named the most famous building in each US state, and the Capitol of Williamsburg took the title for Virginia. Closer to home, Richmond has no shortage of stunning architecture. We’d vouch for these iconic historic landmarks, especially Old City Hall.
“Hey, I just saw a Roseate Spoonbill.” If your partner perked up, congrats — they’ve passed the bird theory test. The trend supposedly tests how tuned-in your sweetheart really is. Bonus: Who doesn’t love local bird talk?

Community

What do a strategic multimodal transportation plan, a near-term action plan, and a long-term scenario plan have in common? They’re all outcomes of Richmond Connects — an equity-focused initiative that identifies and prioritizes multimodal transportation projects and programs across the City of Richmond. Learn more.*

The Buy

A really good heating pad to get you through the winter season. The Buy Editor Sarah recently tested one from Pure Enrichment’s selection — its plush cover is ultra soft, it heats up quickly, and it features an automatic shut-off feature. Pro tip: Heat the pad up under your bed covers before you climb in on cold winter nights.

Bonus: Use code HSN2025 to save $10 off $20 through November.

🚲 What is Richmond’s bikeability score?

It seems our bike score may have surprised some of you. 31% of our readers steered into the right answer. RVA scored a 25 out of 100, according to PeopleForBike’s latest report.

The score reflects the city’s overall bike network by considering features like protected bike lanes, safe crossings, and connected off-road trails.

The Wrap

Did you submit your votes for RVA Mag’s 2025 Readers’ Poll? Now’s your chance to show some loyalty to your local haunts. I cast my votes, and it took me less than 10 minutes.

The RVA hill I’ll die on: Moore Street Cafe is the absolute best breakfast spot (but everyone needs to stop going when I do so I can get a table).
