News Notes

Announced

Virginia-native Pusha T will headline tomorrow’s Made in Virginia Market. The inauguration-weekend event will bring 40+ vendors to the 17th Street Market from 3-8 p.m. Pusha T will take the stage around 7:30 p.m. — no tickets or entry costs required.

Opening

A new Latin American bistro is opening in Midlothian. Created by the owners of Oceano and the now-closed restaurant Maya, Centro will offer dishes inspired by South-American, Peruvian, and Colombian cuisines. Service begins tonight, Jan. 15, in Westchester Commons. (Times-Dispatch)

Arts

After 15 years, Richmond Ballet is bringing the classical production of “Giselle” back to the stage. Performances will take place over Valentine’s Day weekend, Feb. 13-15. The company’s Artistic Director considered it “one of the most emotionally rich ballets ever created.”

Plan Ahead

Speaking of Valentine’s Day, reservations are beginning to open up around Richmond’s restaurant scene. Here are a few we’ve noticed: Laura Lee’s, Slack Tide Fish Co., and Jardin. For those seeking new romances, look no further than these local dating clubs.

Did You Know?

Sunday Bagel has taken up a Saturday — not Sunday — residency at Lost Letter in Scott’s Addition. For the duration of January and February, the pop-up biz will serve sourdough bagels from the window on Altamont Avenue. Stop by from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. (or by sell-out).

Answered

We asked, you answered. Are the deviled eggs at Lombardy Market worth the hype? Reader Alison K. said, “They are the best in town, maybe anywhere actually.” Reader Sarah K. added, “Best part is that while you gobble them up, you can count on great conversation with the owner!” Share your take.

Wellness

Interested in a THC or CBD journey in 2026? Women-owned and operated brand TribeTokes is offering 15% off with code DRYJAN15, plus a free CBD/CBG tincture when you spend $40. Try pineapple THC gummies or mini THCA prerolls for some California sober fun during dry January.*

1,116. That’s how many responses we received from readers during our Giving Campaign.

We analyzed all of those responses to learn more about what you enjoy — and want to see more of — in our newsletters. Here’s what you said:

  • ~20-25% of messages expressed that local info + events are our key value. These readers probably love the Events and News Note sections of our newsletter, along with our monthly Plan Ahead.
  • ~15–20% highlighted RICtoday’s fun, positive tone.
  • ~10% said that we’re part of their morning routine, and we couldn’t be happier to accompany your morning cup of coffee.
  • ~10% praised our brevity + easy-to-read format, so we’ll be sure to keep this short.
  • Several people also called out our support of small businesses + our “no-politics” approach. Psst: More formalized small business coverage is coming soon, so be on the lookout.

Don’t worry — we did a double-take too. Birdie’s on West Broad introduced its new, “soon-to-go-viral” dessert, and it looks just like a crisp, red apple. Find out what it’s actually made of.

The Wrap

As a former nanny (for pre-K + elementary ages), I’ve spent several summers rummaging for low-cost, kid-friendly activities around Richmond. A few things I’ve learned:
  • You can always count on local libraries for events and new spaces to explore.
  • Pocahontas State Park is worth the drive and cost of admission for educational and energizing events (especially for canoeing and kayaking lessons).
  • Regal Cinemas hosts $1 matinees over the summer.
