Today Is
Friday the 13th has long been associated with bad luck. We hope it doesn’t impact you. Research shows, however, that certain superstitions can impact black cats, who are less likely to be adopted than other felines. We think you would absolutely strike lucky if you adopted Bowling Ball from Richmond Animal League. (History.com)
Drink
If you’re planning a sweet night in this Valentine’s Day, consider trying out these cocktail recipes curated by regional mixologists. First up on the list: Raspberry Rose Gin Rickey made with a local Crescent Simples syrup. See where you can shop for the mixer in Richmond. (Virginia Living)
Plan Ahead
Richmond Invasive Species Awareness Week is coming up, Sunday Feb. 22-Saturday, Feb. 28. In addition to 10+ volunteer gigs, you can hang with RVA Goats, catch a film screening, and Boogie for the Biosphere. See the full schedule.

Vicki W. longs for Pasture’s grilled pimento cheese “sammich,” saying, “I miss [it] sooooo much.” Katie S. recalls The Dog and Pig Show for having “the best grilled pimento cheese with tomato jam.” Care to share?

Ope, I was away from my desk for a day, and we accidentally included a story about the wrong Richmond in yesterday’s newsletter. With 40 Richmonds in the US, it’s bound to happen every now and then, but no other place does it like RVA, ammiright?
Side note: Richmond, California, isn’t one of our sister cities, but we do have several (spanning six counties and three continents) if you want to indulge your wanderlust.
One of our sister cities, Saitama City, is the capital of Saitama Prefecture in Japan.
