Development

The state has approved three major hospital projects in Chesterfield County. Proposals include VCU Health’s plan for a new 66-bed hospital, the Hospital Corporation of America’s new 60-bed Magnolia Hospital, and Bon Secours’ expansion of the St. Francis Medical Center. Total costs: ~$672 million. (Virginia Business)

Sports

Did the Spiders advance in the March Madness brackets? The UR women’s basketball team faced Nebraska in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last night, March 18. See the results, which determine whether the Spiders continue or not. Coming up tonight, March 19, tune in to see how the VCU Rams play.

Quoted

“We refused to sell the property to an entity that only wanted ‘the land,’” said the now-former owners of Goochland Drive-In Theater. After spending almost a year in limbo, the starry-skied movie destination is officially under new ownership — local couple James and Kathryn Munsey.

Community

Richmond SPCA will host its annual Dog Jog, 5K, and Block Party this Saturday, March 21. Plan ahead for these Northside road closures. If you want to lend a helping hand before the race, consider joining a litter cleanup tomorrow, March 20, from 4 to 6 p.m.

Award

We’re honored and downright delighted to be nominated in Style Weekly’s Best of Richmond 2026 poll. If you’re a fan of our daily newsletters, take a moment to vote for RICtoday. If you’re a superfan, you can vote once each day, now through Tuesday, March 31.

Try This

We have another day-trip proposal, specifically for the barbecue critics. You may have already visited Williamsburg a dozen times, but have you tried Pierce’s Pitt Bar-B-Que? Southern Living crowned Pierce’s as the best barbecue in Virginia, and it’s about an hour-long drive to find out if you agree. Explore more day-trip inspo.

Plan Ahead

Tickets are on sale for the Fourth Annual Richmond Animation Festival, split over two individually ticketed days. Festivities include a Shorts Program on Saturday, April 25, and a feature screening of “Boys Go to Jupiter” the following day.

Tech

If your computer overheats with a few tabs open or sounds ready for liftoff, the problem might not be your device — it’s likely your antivirus. Many big-name brands are bulky + full of pop-ups. Webroot’s antivirus protection uses 33 times less space and scans up to six times faster. Get protected.*

Eat

When dinner turns into a staring contest with your fridge, Forkful meals save the night. They’re fully prepared and ready in minutes — with zero seed oils and high-quality proteins. Use code CMD50 to take 50% off your first order.*

Answered

💸 Last week, we asked what you wanted to know most about the newly proposed city budget.

After getting a first look at Richmond’s F27 budget, a quarter of our readers wanted to hear more about key investment areas. Here are a few proposals to start the conversation:

  • Includes pay raises for police, fire, and other union-represented employees
Record-breaking $257 million allocated to Richmond Public Schools
$11.7 million for the Affordable Housing Trust Fund + $1.8 million for affordable housing performance grants
  • Accounts for an estimated 1,900+ new affordable housing units funded through grants
What else do you want to know?

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Elise

Yesterday, I visited the VMHC for an early look at the new exhibit “We the People: The World in Our Commonwealth.” I’m still thinking about this vibrantly detailed 1930s costume dress (pictured below), once worn to honor Czechoslovakian heritage at a regional festival.

Stay tuned for more exhibit info, and plan ahead for its official opening this Saturday, March 21.
An original 1930s costume dress; the dress features a yellow bodice and beige both, both covered in floral details; the dress also features a black skirt and a white blouse underneath the bodice, and white balloon-style sleeves with yellow details.
