Henrico proposes Tuckahoe Creek Park expansion

Following a land donation of 20+ acres, Henrico County introduced plans for a new boardwalk + more at Tuckahoe Creek Park.

Grab your binoculars and lace up your sneakers. Tuckahoe Creek Park is expanding with a new boardwalk and increased wetland access. The expansion follows a donation of approximately 21 acres from The Wilton Companies, an 80-year-old real estate agency that has donated 250+ acres to Henrico County over the years.

Henrico officials and the CEO of The Wilton Companies announced the news on Monday, backed by the grassy scenery and well-timed flying geese of Tuckahoe Creek Park.

What to expect:

  • An additional boardwalk and trailhead named “Wilton Landing”
  • A new fishing pier + multiple wetland overlooks and kayak/paddle launch areas
  • Educational landmarks memorializing the industrial history of coal mining and railroad work in the area
  • A private trail connecting to Lakewood Retirement Community (which donated an additional nine acres to the project)
  • A new shelter and parking area off Westbriar Drive, replacing Tuckahoe Village Recreation Association’s pool and tennis courts, which closed after a poolhouse fire in 2021
  • Bookending trail access from the new parking lot and a pedestrian entryway at Lauderdale Drive
