We’re celebrating RICtoday’s first anniversary on Tues., July 26. Since our first newsletter dropped , we’ve met hundreds of Richmonders, visited dozens of local businesses, munched on many delicious brunches, and are even more inspired to explore — 365 days later.
Both of us inaugural city editors think now is the perfect time to reintroduce ourselves.
We start with Editor Robin — the born-and-raised Richmond gal with a love for local art, days at the river + coffee.
Q: What has been your favorite story you’ve written for RICtoday?
A: Following the Diamond District development has been exciting — I loved hearing from readers + comparing their wishes with the plans for the new neighborhood. Sampling ten scoops from ten local ice cream shops wasn’t too bad either.
Q: What’s something you recommend to visitors?
A: Take some time to walk, roll, bike, or scoot around the city — no matter where you are, you’ll run into history. In case you need some inspo, here’s the facts on the floodwall , canal , and Richmond’s own sailor sandwich .
Q: What’s on your Richmond planner for the rest of the summer?
A: My list of restaurants to try keeps expanding — I still want to check out cocodrilo , SB’s Love Shack , and the new Natalie’s Taste of Lebanon location.
Now we go to Editor Katie — the one-year veteran of the River City with a penchant for rock climbing, wine + karaoke nights.
Q: What’s your favorite story you’ve written for RICtoday?
A: I loved getting to know Chef Carlos Ordaz + his specialty tacos at TBT El Gallo . I can’t wait to see what he brings to his second taqueria, opening in Willow Lawn this September. I also enjoyed visiting seven local bookshops for Independent Bookstore Day.
Q: What surprised you the most about the city?
A: I’m consistently surprised with both Richmond’s walkability + natural beauty. Being able to walk from a local brewery to a specialty boutique to a live music venue all in the same neighborhood is so special. Plus, Belle Isle , Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and Maymont are stunning no matter the season.
Q: What’s your weekend looking like?
A: My partner is coming to town tonight, so I’m bringing him to Gallery5’s Jazz Night , then we’ll visit the Diamond for a Flying Squirrels game . On Sunday morning, we’ll grab brunch at Capital Waffle Shop .
