There may not be a professional sports team from Virginia in the Super Bowl, but that doesn’t mean the state isn’t well represented.
Whether you’re at the watch parties for the game or the Buffalo chicken dip, we’ve designed this with all fans in mind. You don’t need to know what a line of scrimmage is to understand these fast facts, and we made sure each one has direct ties to RVA and the rest of the Commonwealth.
Super Bowl LIX is on Sunday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. featuring the Kansas City Chiefs vs. the Philadelphia Eagles. The game is taking place at the Sugar Dome in New Orleans, but you can watch it on: Fox (Fox Sports app not included), Fubo, Tubi, DirecTV Stream, Sling TV, YouTube TV, and Hulu with Live TV. Plus, don’t miss this year’s halftime show with Kendrick Lamar + SZA.
5.) Christian Parker | Philadelphia Eagles
While all eyes will be on the field during the Super Bowl, we’re rooting for this passing game coordinator and defensive backs coach. He graduated from Battlefield High School in Haymarket, VA and went on to graduate from the University of Richmond.
4.) Chamarri Conner | Kansas City Chiefs
Though this defensive back was born in Florida, he spent his collegiate career with Virginia Tech. The former Hokie was drafted by the Chiefs in 2023 and found playing time throughout his rookie season. He had three tackles in Super Bowl LVIII, which the Chiefs won.
3.) Derrick Nnadi | Kansas City Chiefs
From Ocean Lakes High School to the Chiefs, we think its safe to say Nnadi’s NFL career has been nearly best case scenario. The defensive lineman was drafted in 2018, quickly found playing time, and has since won three Super Bowls in six seasons. He’s back again with the chance to win his fourth.
2.) Chris Long | Philadelphia Eagles
This former standout defensive end from the University of Virginia won two Super Bowls during his professional career. The first was with the New England Patriots in 2016 during their stunning 28-3 comeback against Atlanta. The second came with the Philadelphia Eagles in the following season. Long retired in 2018.
1.) H. Roe Bartle | Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs were named after their mayor in 1963 — H. Roe Bartle, who was born in Richmond. He was instrumental in getting the then-Dallas-based team to move to KC, earning him the nickname “The Chief.”
