The zodiac signs as Richmond neighborhoods

Your home, your favorite coffee shop, and your daily commute aren’t just written in the skyline — they may be written in the stars

One of the most loveable things about Richmond is the distinct character found in each neighborhood, district, and corner of town. They all have their own personalities and purposes — some would say it was written in the stars.

Let’s take a look at how our neighborhoods align with the zodiac signs.

Aquarius: Brookland Park/Barton Heights | Jan. 20- Feb. 18

The unique businesses of these Northside neighborhoods embody the eclectic nature of an Aquarius. Find something to feed your creativity at Alma’s RVA, SCRAP Creative Reuse, and Brookland Park Flowers and Gifts. Plus, there’s kombucha, juice, smash burgers, ice cream, barbecue, and baked goods all on the same street.

A peaceful walk around the lake is just the kind of contemplation required for a Pisces.

Pisces: Byrd Park/Carillon | Feb. 19-March 20

An afternoon spent around the Byrd Park/Carillon area provides the perfect escapist moment for a Pisces to relax. Take a walk around Fountain Lake or explore Pump House Park. Being an introvert, this sign needs a quaint spot to recharge the social battery, but we think they’d still catch a few shows at Dogwood Dell to get the creative juices flowing.

Aries: Monroe Ward | March 21-April 19

Known as the passionate and confident leader of the zodiac, an Aries would feel right at home in Monroe Ward, from having a rooftop drink at The Graduate to picking up dinner at Stella’s Grocery. Plus, the several tattoo shops in the area suit the fiery personality of this sign.

You can probably find a Taurus sipping a coffee at the VMHC cafe.

Taurus: Museum District | April 20-May 20

As a lover of loyalty, you’ll feel right at home exploring the homey streets of the Museum District. Stop in to the VMFA or VMHC for a dose of intellectual stimulation and find lots of things to do, eat, and see coming around Arthur Ashe Boulevard.

Gemini: Manchester/Blackwell | May 21-June 20

The extroverted nature of a Gemini means they tend to get along with all kinds of people — similar to Manchester. Enjoy the sunshine and samosas at Gold Lion Community Cafe or shop from local artisans at the monthly Richmond Makers Market at Basic City Beer Co. And if you can’t choose what to have for lunch, Hatch Local Food Hall has something for everyone (even if you have trouble making decisions).

Cancer: Jackson Ward | June 21-July 22

The intuitive and devoted nature of this sign is the perfect match for Jackson Ward, a neighborhood filled with history and community. Find a home for emotional depth at ART 180, Gallery5, and the Black History Museum & Cultural Center.

Leo: The Fan | July 23-Aug. 22

The Fan is a perfect fit for the welcoming and proud nature that a Leo embodies. Enjoy a drink with a group of friends on the patio at Curbside Cafe, then lead the group on a neighborhood tour of eateries, pocket parks, and quaint shops like Strawberry Fields Flowers and Finds and The Wild Wander.

Virgo: Forest Hill | Aug. 23-Sept. 22

This earth sign has very practical and grounded qualities, making this Southside neighborhood an ideal fit. With easy access to South of the James Farmers Market and the other amenities of Forest Hill Park, this spot will leave a Virgo’s busy mind feeling right at home. The neighborhood also gets marks for reliability as the home of O’Tooles Restaurant, a local spot since 1966.

We think Libra and Bellevue are kindred spirits.

Libra: Bellevue | Sept. 23-Oct. 22

Bellevue’s active yet small-town vibe is just as balanced as a Libra. With coffee spots like Stir Crazy Cafe, local bakery Up All Night, Richmond eatery staple Dot’s Back Inn, and local grocer Little House, this quirky and calm part of the River City is fitting for this air sign.

Scorpio: Oregon Hill | Oct. 23-Nov. 21

Something about the leaf-lined streets of Oregon Hill — and its proximity to Hollywood Cemetery — perfectly encapsulates this water sign. Rich in history and within walking distance of VCU and Belle Isle, this neighborhood balances the loyalty, ambition, and passion of a Scorpio.

Idealistic lovers of the intellectual, Sagittarius would definitely appreciate the historic wonder of Main Street Station — and its party-hosting capabilites.

Sagittarius: Shockoe | Nov. 22-Dec. 21

This sign’s need for constant change can be fed by dancing the night away at The Canal Club or mingling with new friends at the Richmond Night Market. As an adventure seeker, you can also make a getaway with access to Main Street Station.

Capricorn: Scott’s Addition | Dec. 22- Jan. 19

For famously hardworking Capricorns, there are plenty of spots in Scott’s Addition to network and work remotely. When it’s time to cut loose, you still have plenty to choose from, whether you prefer a drink at a local brewery or quick Pilates session.

Think another neighborhood suits your sign? We’d love to hear your thoughts.
