Last Wednesday, Sept. 27, the Hanover County Board of Supervisors approved Envision Hanover , a comprehensive plan for the next two decades of development.
The plan — a detailed document clocking in at 168 pages — identifies the need for more affordable housing options and a larger workforce. It also takes into account residents’ desire for Hanover to retain its “rural character.”
Only 22% of Hanover County is considered urban. Envision Hanover identifies several rural zones suitable for development into single-family homes. It also procured a historic destination for the Brown Grove Historic District , protecting the rural area from any future development.
From the time this plan was announced in January 2022 to its passing last week, the Board of Supervisors received more than 4,000 comments from residents regarding their priorities on the county’s development and the local issues they think need to be addressed most urgently.
