Richmond pets: paws up for the pups

We asked readers to send us photos of their Richmond-resident pets, and here’s our roundup of River City pups.

Daisy and Junebug | “They love to hike, dig, chase squirrels, and chase tennis balls at Ruff.”

This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for. After weeks of asking our readers to submit their paw-fect pet pictures, we’ve put together our first — absolutely adorable — roundup.

We received nearly 100 photos of our neighborhood cats and dogs, so we decided to divide the spotlight to double the celebration. This one’s for the pups.

Put your paws up for...

Covey | “He is a 13-year-old Husky and Church Hill resident who loves Chimborazo & Libby Hill parks.”

Sam | “Total goofball who loves every being”

Romeo | “He came with the name Romeo, which suits him since he’s very dramatic and enjoys kissing (with tongue).”

RIC_pets_MAY

Kashi Noelle James | “She is bilingual and loves kisses.”

RIC_pets_MAY

Teemo | “He’s just a little boy showing his little boy smile.”

RIC_pets_MAY

Boomer | “Loyal, playful, and terrified of thunder”

Lacey | “A huge fan of every trail and park Richmond has to offer. I got her from the Richmond SPCA in 2023 after being in a shelter for 18 months, and her derpy, lovable personality has only flourished! Yes, her tongue is always sticking out unless she’s super focused.

Jenny | “Jenny is a late sleeper, so waking up early to help get the kids off to school makes her cranky. She is definitely excited for summer break and sleeping in to begin!”

RIC_pets_MAY

Bluey | “Will choose to cuddle over a basic necessity (e.g. food, water, etc.) any day”

RIC_pets_MAY

Mini | “She loves to go to Lowes and Home Depot because of all the attention she gets from people.”

Vega Marvalhaes | “A resilient two-year-old Husky mix with a heart as big as the James River. Vega currently holds the title of ‘Fastest Dog in Forest Hill.’ She won the 2025 Forest Hill 5K Dog/Human Category. When she’s not exploring the eclectic neighborhoods of Richmond, you’ll find her mingling at local festivals (like Tiny Porch Concerts) or joyfully rock-hopping along the James River shoreline.”

Tallulah | “Sees every new person or object as a potential toy”

Oliver | “Oliver is from the Czech Republic and is the calmest Golden you’ll ever meet. He’s practically perfect and hardly ever does anything wrong!

Bentley (black-haired) + Beamer (grey-haired) | “Brothers at heart, but different personalities at play. Who is more playful? Can you tell?”

Dakota | “Still a puppy — very stubborn and extremely patient with our boys.”

Chubbs R. | “One-and-a-half-year-old Blue English Bulldog who loves to soak up the sun and listen to the birds.”

If you made it this far, you’re clearly an animal lover — and we love that for you.

Didn’t see your pup featured this time around? We received dozens of picture-perfect submissions, but unfortunately we couldn’t fit them all in today’s roundup. Keep an eye on our Instagram and future newsletters, where we’ll periodically post more spotlights.
