We love the Richmond music scene — so we made a collaborative playlist for locals, by locals.

In this playlist, you will be able to add your own go-to tracks. We’ve added a few personal favorites to help you get started. Here’s a few local jams:

  • VBS” by Lucy Dacus | She’s coming back to Richmond to play a Brown’s Island show with Courtney Barnett + Samia in July.
  • Lady” by D’Angelo | Neo soul from a Richmond legend.
  • Virginia, The Home Of My Heart” by Susan Greenbaum | The singer-songwriter performed at The Richmond Forum last month.
  • Thriving” by Diet Cig | They wrote their 2017 album, “Do You Wonder About Me?” after moving to Richmond.
  • Don’t Ask Me” by Kenneka Cook + Infinitefreefall | Beat-driven sonics + melodic jazz.
  • make a poet Black” by McKinley Dixon | He won the Newlin Music Prize for his 2021 album, “For My Mama And Anyone Who Look Like Her.”

Now it’s your turn. Create a free Spotify account (if you haven’t already), open the collaborative playlist, add the playlist to your library, and add songs that make you think of Richmond – whether that be the city in general, a person or relationship, songs by local artists, or just a great memory.

Don’t have Spotify? Feel free to send us your recommendations + we’ll add them for you.

Note: Some of the tracks on the playlist may include explicit language.

Once you’ve added your faves, enjoy this little musical piece of River City on road trips, hanging out downtown, or on a bike ride across the city. Explore the playlist below.
