The Hardee’s just off Arthur Ashe Boulevard is closing after about a decade of service. The property is a half mile from the pending Diamond District development. Broad Rock Elementary was highlighted in the New York Times for its focus on phonics when teaching young children to read. RPS has started a five-year literacy initiative with this method to get all students reading at or above grade level by third grade. Fans of recently discontinued 94-year-old Northern Neck Ginger Ale have created a group to petition the Coca-Cola company for its return. The drink had originally been produced by the Carver family in Sandston before the beverage corporation started producing it. The petition already has more than 1,000 signatures. (CBS6 News)

Ashland’s annual “Light Up the Tracks” holiday event will start up on Sat., Nov. 19 + run through New Years Day. The mile-long display is themed after a vintage Christmas village, with special events throughout the season like the Christmas Market and Jolly Jaunt Bar Crawl. 💡

Haunted tours + ghost hunters in Richmond, VA

Richmond Times Dispatch reported last week that local paranormal investigators Transcend Paranormal have explored the supposedly haunted halls of Hanover Tavern, which has been in active use since 1791. Nowadays, it’s one of Virginia Rep’s theaters + has a southern soul food restaurant inside.
