🚌 Pulse possibilities

Share your thoughts on a North-South Pulse line

A North-South Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line is in the works, and GRTC wants your help to decide where it should go. GRTC is asking Richmonders to complete this survey on the possible paths a new Pulse could take.

GRTC ordered a study on a new BRT line last year. At that time, the potential route options included one general path north on Chamberlayne and three options south — going down Route 1, Hull Street, or Midlothian Turnpike.

The route for a new BRT line is still up in the air, including how the line will cut through downtown and across the river.

The study determined nine end-to-end alternatives and broke down each one based on three assessments:
  • Demographics & Land Use | Residential and job density, potential future land use, equity needs
  • Transit Connectivity | Existing ridership numbers, connections to the network, feasibility
  • Multimodal Connectivity | Bike and pedestrian facilities, traffic speeds
Each of these assessments can be seen on the map of potential routes, with darker colors indicating a higher BRT readiness.

The next phase of the North-South expansion will get even more in the weeds for alternative routes, including performing traffic and environmental analyses as well as evaluating possible station locations.

The survey takes participants through each route and asks for feedback. It’ll be open until the end of the month. Want more input options? There will also be a public meeting in October — stay tuned for more details.

Youth soccer showcase coming to Chesterfield in 2024

Chesterfield’s River City Sportsplex will host a youth soccer clinic and showcase tournament called Copa Talento in July 2024.

Founders Darwin and Anthony Murrillo founded Copa Talento to increase access to higher level soccer opportunities for youth in underserved communities — particularly Latino communities.

The event will include a three-day clinic for individual players followed by a showcase tournament. In 2023, 111 teams participated.

Last year, scouts from national teams in Honduras, El Salvador, and Guatemala selected players to start training at various developmental levels.

The announcement is part of an upward trend of Richmond-area sports tourism. Henrico plans to open its Sports & Events Center next month; Chesterfield has more than 125 sports tourism events planned for fiscal year 2024.

Last week we quizzed you on what forms of ID to bring to the polls.

62% of you had the right idea — using a credit card with a photo would not be an acceptable form of identification to vote.

A valid US passport, student ID from a private or public high school or college in Virginia, or current utility bill with your name and address would all work. Pro tip: “Current” means the document cannot be more than 12 months old.

Check out a full list of acceptable IDs to get even more options.
