Bust out those ugly sweaters and tacky holiday garb, because the CarMax Tacky Light Run is back for another round of glitzy, over-the-top cheer.
On Saturday, Dec. 9, RVA’s favorite holiday tradition welcomes walkers, runners, and Santa lovers everywhere to stroll past dozens of extravagantly tacky holiday homes in the Walton Park neighborhood, including the famous Dawnridge Court.
The 6k course is stroller-friendly and open to all ages. Protip: Sign up before Nov. 18 for a discounted rate.
Richmond has started installing cameras in school zones around the city to catch drivers going 11+ mph over the speed limit. The Safety Camera Program is part of the city’s Vision Zero Action Plan.
Regional
Cedar Fair LP, King’s Dominion’s parent company, has been acquired by Six Flags Entertainment Corp. The new company — still called Six Flags — will make King’s Dominion one of 42 parks in the same family. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Development
There’s a new $100+ million business park in the works on Pole Green Road in Hanover. The 217,000-sqft facility is set to include 14 one-story buildings slated for industrial and medical uses. (Richmond BizSense)

Sefton Coffee Co. will be open for special hours on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 12 to 5 p.m. The special hours are part of the N. 8th Holiday Market’s grand opening, and will feature tastings with Encounter Wines.
Seasonal
As temperatures drop and thermostats go up, power companies are anticipating a jump in demand. Dominion is looking to incorporate more renewable energy sources as they prepare their grid for the new season. (VPM)

The James River Association is partnering with Truist and the Arbor Day Foundation for a community-oriented tree planting event at Richmond Public Library’s North Avenue Branch. The event is part of the Greening Richmond Public Libraries initiative.
Richmonders can sign up to participate in the tree planting event, which will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 14. Pro tip: Volunteers should bring their own gloves and a bottle of water.
Justin Doyle, Director of Community Conservation for JRA, explained that the purpose of the trees is to reduce urban heat and stormwater runoff. Doyle said planting and maintaining trees are some of the best ways to fight climate change on a local level.
