Every time we look around, it seems like a new place to eat opens up in Richmond. Whether you’re looking for your next go-to brunch destination or cafe to refuel, we’re rounding up a few things coming to the River City this season.

The Mantu Express, 11636 W. Broad St. | Opening TBA | The owner of the Carytown Afghan restaurant The Mantu announced the expansion to the former Two Guys Pizza location.

Texas Inn, 2901 Park Ave. | Opening TBA | The iconic Lynchburg diner is coming to the Museum District.

Shoreline Seafood Market, 10614 Patterson Ave. | Opening TBA | This new project from David Whitby, former owner of Yellow Umbrella Provisions, will offer fresh and tinned seafood as well as a small menu for lunch and dinner.

If there’s one thing we love even more than looking ahead to the future, it’s enjoying the present at one of Richmond’s newest spots. Check out this list of recently opened restaurants.

Yellow Umbrella Provisions, 5001 Libbie Mill E. Blvd., Suite 135 | The local market’s new Libbie Mill store has opened for business, offering prepared foods, seafood, baked goods, sushi, drinks, and more.

Farm + Oak, 3601 Cox Rd. | The latest offering from Lindsey Food Group, Farm + Oak serves Southern fare for brunch, lunch, and dinner.

ML Steakhouse, 328 E Broad St. | The restaurant’s second location, ML Steak’s Chesterfield Towne Center spot opened in March.

Perry’s Steakhouse & Grille, 11788 W Broad St. | This is the Texas-based restaurant’s first outpost in Virginia.

Development
  • Construction is underway on a new Sheetz at 9420-9500 Midlothian Tpk. This will be the convenience store chain’s eighth location in Chesterfield. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
Community
  • 32 apartments of Cool Lane Commons, an 86-unit low-income complex built by Virginia Supportive Housing, are now occupied. Since the non-profit finished the development in March it has been filling rooms as part of its effort to combat homelessness in the River City. (Richmond BizSense)
Sports
  • The Flying Squirrels’ opening night on Tuesday, April 5, is officially sold out for the 14th consecutive season. The Squirrels led their league in total and average attendance in 2022 and 2023. Don’t worry — tickets are still available for the rest of the season-opening homestand.
Arts
  • An Oregon Hill resident now looks out over Mason Street in Harrisonburg. Let us explain — local artist Nils Westergard has completed a mural in Harrisonburg which includes the likeness of his friend Michael, a Richmond chess player. (VPM)

  • Girls shouldn’t miss school due to lack of access to menstrual products — period. Donate tampons, pantyliners, pads, leggings, and underwear at any VPFW location through May 31 to help the provider break the cycle of period poverty. See how this keeps girls in school.*

  • Ever dreamed of being a TV chef? Well, Richmond, now you can — sort of. The VMHC’s new exhibition, “Julia Child: A Recipe for Life,” includes a perfect replica of the set of “The French Chef.” The exhibit also features photo ops, immersive experiences, and explorations of Virginia’s culinary history.
