👋 Hello, winter
Will we see Maymont dusted with snow this winter? | Photo by Yuly Shaiou
Tomorrow, Dec. 21 is the first official day of winter.
Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for January and February.
January
Expect it to be a bit more frigid in January. Historically the coldest month of the year, temperatures average between a low of 29.7° and a high of 44.6°. If we see significant snow this winter, it’ll likely be in January.
February
In February, temperatures generally stay around a low of 31.8° and a high of 49.3°. If you’ve already got your sun lamp out, you might be reassured to hear that by the end of February, the sun won’t set until 6 p.m. It’s the little things.
