The 1960s are calling, and we’re picking up the rotary phone.
In a search for unique homes passing through the Richmond market, we happened upon this mellow timepiece in Barton Heights, Northside. The 1961 rancher beckons back to a bygone era — perhaps notas bygone as we thought.
“The owner custom-built the home,” real estate agent Natasha Delaney said. Since then, it seems some things have stayed true to retro form.
According to Delaney, the home sold over the weekend, but we were able to hold onto a few pictures so it could still have its moment in the spotlight. See what other features transport you back to the 1960s.

Listen
Remember when almost every artist would release live albums? Streaming has drastically changed our access to live music, but we can still reminisce on some of the best examples from history. An album is good, but so is the real thing — as you’ll discover at Richmond’s music venues. (The Guardian)
Drink
On Jan. 26, 1932, a New York doctor subverted prohibition laws to benefit visiting British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. The physician wrote a letter claiming Churchill’s recovery from an accident “necessitates the use of alcoholic spirits, especially at mealtimes.” No doctor’s note needed here — RVA’s happy hours await, but we’re pro-mocktail too.
