Energy Efficiency Day is tomorrow + we’re here to help you participate.

For all of your Richmond-specific climate questions, head to RVAgreen 2050. The initiative, led by the city’s Office of Sustainability, is an equity-centered climate action plan. On the website, you’ll find an entire page for Housing + Building goals, with resources to track your household energy consumption, conduct a home efficiency assessment, and lower your electricity bill.

You can also check out the RVAgreen 2050 Virtual Resilience Hub, which provides resources for Richmonders to act sustainably. The hub has a section for energy with efficiency recommendations.

RVAgreen 2050 also has a checklist for at-home energy conservation. Here’s what you can do day-to-day to help use energy efficiently.

💡 Turn off lights in unoccupied rooms.

💨 Clean or change air filters each month.

🔌 Unplug equipment like cell phone chargers, coffeemakers + desktop printers when not in use.

☀️ During winter, open your curtains on south-facing windows to allow sunlight in + close at night to reduce chill.

🏠 Get a home energy audit. Pro tip: check out Richmond-based non-profit Viridiant for a low cost, local option.

Passionate about conservation? RVAgreen 2050 has a Virtual Ambassador Program where individuals can encourage their communities to work towards sustainability goals. Sign up to be an ambassador + you’ll get access to a toolkit for engagement and support in hosting community meetings.

You can also take this flash survey to tell RVAgreen a bit more about your home energy use habits. Click this link to take the survey.

Saving energy means saving money. Now that’s a bright idea. 💡
