Richmond pets: our reigning cats

We asked readers to send us photos of their Richmond-resident pets, and here’s our roundup of River City cats.

A grey and white cat sticks its tongue out to lick a flower outside.

Patch | “We bottle fed him and his siblings when they were rescued at a week old. He loves to eat flowers.”

This is the moment you’ve all been waiting for (part two)... We asked RICtoday readers to submit photos of their beloved pets, and you all did not disappoint. After sorting through nearly 100 photos of Richmond-resident dogs and cats, we decided to divide the spotlight to double the celebration.

See our adorable roundup of RVA’s ruling + drooling canines. This one’s for the cats.

Two cats lounge in a windowsill between surrounding bookshelves.

Olive + Opal | “Warmth in the window brought them together… They usually aren’t that close.”

In the photo to the left, a brown/black and white patterned cat sits on a blue cushioned chair, looking up. In the photo to the right, a white cat with orange and grey/black patches curls up in a purple bowl-like bed on a cat-tower.

Lola + Lulu | “I just adopted these two in November, so their personalities are changing as we get accustomed to each other.”

In the photo to the left, a black cat with yellow eyes stretches its arms over a person's stomach as they lounge on a couch. In the photo to the right, the same black cat cuddles a furry stuffed animal of a black cat with yellow eyes.

Slade (longhair), Shadow (shorthair) + Jiji (third cat in second picture) | “Slade and Shadow are so closely bonded, I can’t take one to the vet without the other getting upset with me!”

In the photo to the left, an orange and white patterned cat stares directly into the camera lens. In the photo to the right, the cat stares off-camera, directly at a young baby wearing a pink bunny shirt.

Raz | “He is 18 years old and learning to live with a newborn at home. He is very friendly and loves to cuddle.”

A grey cat sits on a desk chair in the photo on the left, and a brown and black table cat sits in the enge of a dresser top in the right picture.

Juliet + Hopper | “Hopper is a snuggly love-bug who loves his treats. Juliet is a sweetie who loves being pet and hiding from Hopper.”

Two black and white cats are seen in two separate pictures, both near each other and looking into the camera with green eyes.

Sally + Hubble | "#nasakitten littermates and air-prey extraordinaires!”

A black cat sits behind a row of books, peeking over the top.

Jack | “Jack says ‘hello’ and ‘yeah,’ and uses them in context. She’s a smart kitty!”

A tabby cat rubs against the plastic bottom of an insulin needle in the first photo. In the second, the cat sits with its paws on a kitchen table, in front of a mid-play Scrabble board and an "I" Scrabble tile.

Kodak (Editor Elise’s cat) | “Kodak is diabetic and loves getting his Insulin shots to make him feel better. He’s invaluable while playing Scrabble and enjoys fetching pipe cleaners.”

If you made it this far, you’re clearly an animal lover — and we love that for you.

Didn’t see your pet featured this time around? We received dozens of picture-perfect submissions, but unfortunately, we couldn’t fit them all in this week’s roundup. Keep an eye on our Instagram and future newsletters, where we’ll periodically post more spotlights.
