Some of the best runners in the country will by in Hanover County this weekend.

The USA Track & Field National Cross Country Championships will take place at Pole Green Park this Saturday, Jan. 20. Participants are racing for a spot on the team that will compete at the 2024 World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Serbia — oh, and there’s $45,000 in prize money up for grabs.

This is the second year the championships will be held at Pole Green Park; the event was also in Hanover last year. The park’s 232 acres make it a prime option for cross country racing.

Want to get involved? There’s a 6K that morning at 9 a.m. that’s open to the public. Register here. There is also a kids run for children under 10.
