4 Tha Culture: VCU + UR to join milestone hoops showcase in Henrico

In its debut year, the 4 Tha Culture Holiday Classic invites six Division 1 women’s basketball teams to celebrate culture and talent.

Attend the first-ever 4 Tha Culture Hoops Classic, a debut showcase aiming to set a standard for excellence on the court and in the community.

“This event is more than basketball — it’s about pride, culture, and giving women’s athletics the platform it deserves.”

That’s what showcase co-creator John Tate said about the inaugural 4 Tha Culture Holiday Classic, a premier women’s basketball event bringing fierce competition to the Richmond area Friday, Dec.19, through Sunday, Dec. 21.

The Virginia Commonwealth University Rams and University of Richmond Spiders will join four other Division 1 teams at the Henrico Sports + Event Center: Alabama A&M, Coppin State, Penn State, and Georgia.

“Attendees can expect community-focused programming and curated cultural experiences that celebrate and uplift Black voices in sports, entrepreneurship, and leadership,” according to event organizers.

VCU will kick off the 4 Tha Culture Classic with a match against the University of Georgia on Friday, Dec. 19.

Tickets are available for purchase online, whether you want to catch just one game or join the stands for all three days.

  • All-session passes: $55 adults, $45 youth
