VisArts opens registration for fall session classes to the public next Wednesday

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond has opened class registration for members for the fall session. There’s 200+ to choose from, with offerings for youth, beginners, or experts in any art form. The general public can enroll starting Wed., July 20.

We collected a few favorites which are enrolling students now.

🎨 Extended programs

Art Quilt Studio | Wednesdays, Sept. 28-Nov. 16 | 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. | $230+ | Julia Pfaff will go over contemporary quilt design + technique, as well as piecing, appliqué, and machine quilting.

Digital Worldbuilding and Character Creation for Comics + Graphic Novels | Mondays, Sept.19-Oct. 24 | $185+ | Melissa Duffy will teach Adobe Photoshop to help students fully realize a universe with characters, props + environmental design.

Introduction to Interior Design | Thursdays, Sept. 15-Oct. 20 | 6:30-9 p.m. | $158+ | Paul Bethel will elaborate on the key elements of interior design: continuity, scale, proportion, balance, color, and light.

🎨 One day programs

Humor in Memoir | Sat., Sept. 17 | 10 a.m.-4 p.m. | $77+ | Nate Waggoner will take students step-by-step in drafting and refining a truly funny story.

Marble Making | Sat., Oct. 8 | 10 a.m.-4 p.m. | $77+ | Brad Pearson will teach basic designs to students using propane torches + glass rods.

Figure Drawing | Fri., Nov. 4 | 6:30-9 p.m. | $4.50+ | Gain experience drawing from a live figure model.

🎨 Online programs

Drawing + Painting with Ink | Sat. Oct. 8-Sun. Oct. 9 | 10 a.m.-4 p.m. | $95+ | Amie Oliver will teach this two-day exploration of the ink, pen + brush through Zoom.

Introduction to Digital Photography | Tuesdays, Oct. 25-Nov. 15 | 6-8 p.m. | $95+ | Andres Soulas will help students get to know their camera’s manual setting + with the basics of white balance, aperture, ISO, and composition.

Can’t wait to start? The summer session has multiple classes scheduled for late July and August to tide you over. There are also monthly drop-in classes available for guests looking to try something new.

If you’d rather support the arts than be an artist tickets are available now for the VisArts-produced Craft + Design Show, where 150+ artisans will be selling and displaying their works throughout the weekend of Oct. 14-16.
