Art Works celebrates 19 years this Fourth Friday in Richmond, VA

The Manchester art studio is opening three new displays which will be on view until late October.

Art Works is open for tours for prospective artists, buyers, or just curious Richmonders.

Art Works — the contemporary art center in Manchester known for monthly art shows in an active studio environment — is celebrating 19 years of creativity. Help them toast to nearly two decades in style with a Fourth Friday exhibition opening tomorrow, Fri., Sept. 23.

What to expect

From 6-8 p.m., check out feature exhibitions by these artists:

Up from the Ashes, A Life in Clay ” | Lee Hazelgrove
This Richmonder has racked up 35 years of ceramic prowess, including this collection of pedestal pieces and traditional firing techniques.

Das Pferd (The Horse) ” | Heidi Nunnally
Explore Heidi’s impactful photography of natural landscapes, wildlife, and the freedom of horses.

All Media Show | Various artists
This multimedia display will feature jury selections judged by VCU’s Roberto Jamora.

Plus, guests will be greeted with live music, libations + door prizes.

Pro tip: Parking is free at the lot across from Art Works (317 Hull St.), or $3 at the East Fifth Street parking garage near Hatch Local Food Hall.

Richmond Train Day is Sat., Sept. 24, and will be celebrated at the Railway Museum + Art Works from 12-4 p.m.

What’s coming next?

This Saturday from 12-4 p.m., in honor of Richmond Train Day , Art Works is displaying over a dozen paintings, photography prints, sculptures + iron works dedicated to the locomotive . Half of this exhibition will be housed at the nearby Richmond Railway Museum.

October’s Fourth Friday (Oct. 28) will feature a Dark Arts media show. Be sure to break out your Halloween costumes to view the mysterious + fanciful pieces on display.

The center’s 80 studios + exhibition spaces are free and open to the public Tuesdays-Sundays from 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
