Virginia is for Lovers — of LOVE signs, that is.

We’ve heard from readers multiple times over that they want to know how to find LOVE signs in Richmond and beyond. So we decided to start the new year with a scavenger hunt of sorts.

There are over 275 LOVEworks around the Commonwealth, according to the Virginia Tourism Corporation. They started popping up around 2013 as a social media-friendly way to strengthen the “Virginia is for Lovers” message. Signs are either standard white or can incorporate local and regional themes.

Check out the official map of LOVEworks to start your adventure. We’d recommend kicking off at the Virginia Welcome Center at Main Street Station (1500 E. Main St.) and heading west.

From there, the Reservoir Distillery LOVEwork by local artist Ed Trask celebrates the creative renaissance in Scott’s Addition. Lewis Ginter has worked LOVE into the landscape with a gardening motif. The Richmond Raceway piece, meanwhile, is entirely race-themed, made of tires, racing helmets, and actual cars from past NASCAR series.

With so many signs in Central VA and beyond, we know our adventurous readers have run into them on their travels. Share your pics on our Instagram by tagging us (@theRICtoday) or using the hashtag #RICtoday. Or drop them in our inboxwe can’t wait to spread the LOVE.

Have a vision for more LOVE? VTC established the LOVEwork Reimbursement fund in order to promote the building of new signs. Virginians can submit an application with ideas for a design, usage, and placement and receive a reimbursement of up to $1,500 to make the project happen. If you do this, we have to score an invite to the unveiling.
