Sub Rosa Bakery reopening Dec. 16, one year after building fire

Just over one year after a fire caused the beloved local bakery to close, Sub Rosa is ready to open its doors once again.

A quintessential Richmond take: Waiting in line for Sub Rosa, especially first thing in the morning, is always worth it.

Sub Rosa Bakery will reopen its doors on Tuesday morning, Dec. 16, and the aroma of fresh bread and decadent pastries will breathe comfort into Church Hill once again.

The neighborhood haven, located at the corner of North 25th Street and Jefferson Avenue, shuttered its doors on Nov. 24, 2024 after a building fire rendered the bakery inoperable.

You’ll notice some changes as you step back into the restored Church Hill space. Over the summer, Sub Rosa bid adieu to its wood-fired oven, gave away the dismantled bricks, and ushered in an electric model.

The heart of this Richmond staple remains the same. If you have any doubts, we recommend sitting down and reacquainting yourself with a classic chocolate croissant.

The bakery will open its doors at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 16. From then on, regular business hours apply.

Welcome back home, Sub Rosa.
