Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day is back this Sat., Sept. 17. That means free admission to participating museums around the country.
🎟 How it works
Reserve an official Museum Day ticket for you + a guest to visit a participating museum. When you present the ticket (make sure to check the ticket to see if it needs to be printed), you’ll be granted free admission.
Note: You can only reserve a ticket for one museum — so choose wisely. Once you submit the form, you won’t be able to go back and change your selection.

There are three Richmond institutions participating in Museum Day.
- Virginia Museum of History and Culture , 428 N. Arthur Ashe Blvd. | 10 a.m.-5 p.m. | Browse current exhibitions including “The Story of Virginia,” “Our Commonwealth,” and the new “Cheers, Virginia!” display.
- Agecroft Hall & Gardens , 4305 Sulgrave Rd. | 12-5 p.m. | Tour the authentic English Tudor house museum + explore the manicured gardens overlooking the James River.
- Preservation Virginia’s John Marshall House , 818 E. Marshall St. | 10 a.m.-5 p.m. | Learn the history of the longest-serving Supreme Court Chief Justice in a tour of the oldest brick house in Richmond.
