We know the question on your mind, Richmonders — is it going to snow this winter? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for December, January, and February.
While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what winter will bring.
Reminder: The first official day of winter is Saturday, Dec. 21.

Think warm. This winter, Richmond has a 40-50% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
🌨️ Precipitation
Expect normal amounts of precipitation.The Greater Richmond Region is in the “equal chances” zone, meaning we shouldn’t expect way more or way less rain and snowfall compared to previous years.

On Wednesday, Jan. 15, join award-winning author David Fleming as he explores the mystery behind the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. This lesser-known document, signed in 1775, claims to be America’s first declaration of independence, long before Jefferson’s 1776 version.
Brick Fire is now open in the former Maya location near the Dominion Energy Center. The restaurant features a menu of Neapolitan pizzas prepared in the “Cadillac of pizza ovens,” a Marra Forni pizza oven constructed on site. (Richmond Times-Dispatch)
