The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon (plus the CarMax Half Marathon and VCU Health 8K) will be up and running in less than 24 hours. That means the streets of the River City will be packed with runners, spectators, and people just trying to get around it all.

Here’s what you need to know, depending on when and where you’re going on race day:

Race day schedule ⏰

Today
10 a.m.-7 p.m. | Roads begin to close along course, no parking signs active
Saturday
6 a.m. | Race day registration starts at the intersection of Grace Street and 6th Street.
7 a.m. | VCU Health Richmond 8K starts
7:30 a.m. | First wave of marathon runners start
11:30 a.m. | Half-marathon route closes
3 p.m. | Marathon route closes
4 p.m. | Detours and parking restrictions lift

Pro tip: If you’re cheering on someone specific, sign up for Runner Alerts to send you texts tracking exactly where your participant is on the course. NBC12 is also setting up Party Zones on miles 7, 13, and 19 on the marathon course.

Two signs are plastered on a pole for future parking signs.

Race festivities will taper off between 3-4 p.m. on Saturday.

Road closures ⚠️

There are dozens of closures from Brown’s Island up to major downtown intersections, including swathes of Broad Street, Monument Avenue, and Arthur Ashe Boulevard.

Bus routes 🚌

20+ GRTC routes will be detoured, including the Pulse line. The service says to head to the Temporary Transfer Plaza to make connections while race day continues and expect significant schedule impacts.

After-party 🎉

The party starts past the finish line at 5th Street and Tredegar with live music, food, drinks, and vendors open to both participants and fans. The fun wraps up around 3 p.m.
